The Push and Pull of It All

A great way to design strength workouts is to include some pushing exercises and some pulling exercises. A pushing exercise is any exercise where you push something away from you. A pulling exercise is any exercise where you pull something toward you. Here’s a fun circuit workout that alternates pushes, pulls, and lunges (so you get a total-body workout). Simply do each exercise right after each other. After you’ve done the whole circuit, rest two minutes. Then repeat the circuit, doing it three to six times.

1. Press, 12 reps
2. Lateral Lunge, Right Side, 12 Reps
3. Bench Row, Right Side, 12 Reps
4. Bench Row, Left Side, 12 Reps
5. Lateral Lunge, Left Side, 12 Reps
